Saudi writer banned for wry comments on ‘Azan’
The Ministry of Culture and Information banned a local writer on Tuesday for his negative remarks on "Azan" (prayer call).
The ministry banned Muhammad Al-Suhaimi from writing and taking part in any media activity, and asked him to appear before an investigation committee.
Speaking to the MBC channel, Al-Suhaimi had said that Azan, being loud, could disturb elderly people with health problems as well as children. He also called for reducing the number mosques in the various neighborhoods.
The community reacted strongly to his negative remarks, with several people calling for him to be punished.
