Overwhelming response to Riyadh carrom tournament
More than 100 participants, including adults and children, took part in a carrom tournament in Riyadh on Friday.
The full-day tournament, composed of 50 groups, was conducted by the “Ethera Api,” an expatriate body with its base in Colombo. The children who took part were mainly from the Sri Lankan International School in Riyadh. Women also participated in the tournament.
The chief organizer of the tournament, Razeen Deen, told Riyadh Daily that this was the first time that the society had organized such a tournament. It received overwhelming response from the expatriate community. "We will make arrangements to promote this indoor game and hold similar tournaments annually,” Razeen Deen said.
The winners included Nadeer Ismail and Sameer Siddique (doubles), and Marlon Dias and Ajith Perera (singles).
Ethera Api has affiliates in several parts of the world where there is a concentration of overseas workers. It is a voluntary organization dedicated to the cause of humanity.
