Scores of companies exit Qatar’s failing market
A Qatari Ministry of Economy and Commerce business report has revealed that 418 companies stopped their business operations in Qatar in January as against 324 in December.
Construction companies topped the list, accounting for 36 percent, while the commodity trading companies came second with 17 percent.
Standard & Poor's recently affirmed Qatar’s credit rating at AA- with a negative outlook, mainly due to the geopolitical and economic risks posed by the ongoing boycott against the country.
The agency pointed out that the rating might fall further if it turns out that the economic fallouts of the boycott are greater than expected.
The Qatari authorities say that they have used the country's large financial resources to ease the impact.
