Islamic Directives for Global Peace

The entire world has increasingly become a global village. It no longer makes any sense in this day and age to argue glibly about some calamities of violence as being restricted to certain societies, states or regions.

The whole world is now witnessing a growing number of international conflicts. The international community is now prey too many apprehensions and fears, anxiously and expectantly hoping for the dawn of a new era where peace prevails, global conditions are once again stable and nations and peoples coexist in all safety and security.

The Islamic concept of peace encompasses whole range of human sphere may it be political, social, family or personal life. Peaces being the greatest concern of man, all religions attach much importance to it.

But Islam’s concept of peace needs to be studied in more detail as, in the present times; violence is mostly spoken of with reference to Islam.

Peace is more than the absence of war. Peace means harmony, wholeness and well-being in all human relationships.

One way of setting this out is via the triangle of peace, disarmament, conflict resolution and justice. Various uses of the term "peace" in the Quran suggest that the Islamic concept of peace is wider than the absence of war, which includes being at peace with one-self, with fellow human beings, nature, and God.

The Islamic notion of peace suggests a condition of internal and external order, where peace is a responsibility of every Muslim, and the best way to attain that goal through peaceful negotiations.

Islam is a religion of peace, this is, firstly, by virtue of its name that is derived from the verb ‘aslama’ which means “to submit, surrender” and it is derived from the root word ‘salm’ or ‘silm’ which means “peace and security” Justice has been an integral aspect of the Islamic discourse of peace, since the Quran clearly states that the aim of religion is to bring justice.

There can be no peace without justice. Therefore justice is the essential component of peace according to the Quranic message.

Islam is the flag bearer of world peace and offers such teachings that can establish truly solid foundations for peace in the world.

The principles of a global peace founded on values of a creative dialogue that promotes healthy relations between nations and peoples, based on mutual respect, the rejection of fanaticism and extremism and the promotion of the culture of peace, harmony and peaceful coexistence.

To adherent Islamic teachings can help in eliminating the conflicts and tensions across the globe.
