December 1st was not an ordinary day in the economic history of the Kingdom. It was when the Kingdom began its actual presidency of the G20 and this presidency will continue until the end of 2020's November, until the G20 Riyadh Summit on November 21st-22nd.
The Kingdom is the first Arab and Islamic country to assume the presidency of the G20, which includes the leaders of the largest economic countries in the world. This prompts it to exert more effort, coordination and advance and elaborate preparations as of now, so the Summit would come out with the expected results, which contribute to the advancement of the global economy and facing the challenges and obstacles, in order protect this economy from any future crises.
The features of the G20 Riyadh Summit's program, say it will focus on highly important topics and will be themed: "Realizing Opportunities of the 21st Century for All," through three main axes: empowerment of people by creating favorable conditions for this, safeguarding the planet by promoting collaborative efforts related to food and water security, climate, energy and environment, and finally paving the way for new economic policies by adopting bold and long-term strategies, to share the benefits of technological innovation and progress.
The Kingdom's keenness to achieve the maximum level of success in the forthcoming G20 Summit was translated by the speech of His Highness Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, when he said: "During its presidency of the G20 Summit, the Kingdom is committed to continuing the work, which was launched from the Japanese city of Osaka, and working to promote global consensus. We strive, in cooperation with the G20's partners, to achieve tangible achievements and seize opportunities to meet the challenges of the future." The Crown Prince's speech sends a message to the world that the Kingdom, through the G20 Summit's program, will discuss all obstacles and challenges to the growth of the global economy, and will seek urgent solutions for them. In this regard, the Kingdom will not only speak for itself, but will also speak on behalf of the Middle East and the Arab and Muslim worlds.
Another message was directed by the Crown Prince to the countries of Asia, Africa and Europe, assuring them that the Kingdom, by hosting the G20, will play an important role in highlighting the MENA perspective, as this presidency is a valuable and matchless opportunity that should be invested to forge a global consensus on urgent and important international issues.
