The Kingdom's efforts for regional and international peace and stability in neighboring countries have been the most important achievements of the past five years, thanks to the Kingdom's support for peace operations in Yemen, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Lebanon and other Islamic countries.
Kingdom is the most important stability factor in the region
Unanimous reports say that the Kingdom is the spearhead in the efforts aimed at achieving security, stability and prosperity in the region and the world, as the efforts of the Saudi government contributed to three main files; consolidating peace and stability in the region and the world, leading global efforts against extremism and terrorism, and effectively contributing to promoting economic cooperation.
Since the founding of the Kingdom by the late King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman, may his soul rest in peace, foreign political affairs have been based on key principles that included: Commitment to and respect for the rules of international law and international and bilateral treaties and covenants, as well as defending Arab and Islamic issues in international forum. through continuous support in various political, diplomatic and economic means, impartiality and rejection of alliances that violate international peace and security, while respecting the right of peoples to self-determination and self-defense, in addition to respecting the principle of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of any country, rejecting the use of force, violence and any practices that threaten world peace, or lead to perpetuating injustice and tyranny, and working for international peace and justice, as well as condemning and rejecting global terrorism in all its forms and methods, and affirming that Islam distances itself from all terrorist practices.
Commitment to UN Charter
The Kingdom has consistently affirmed its commitment to the purposes and principles contained in the United Nations Charter through its efforts at the international level, out of its belief that promoting the culture of peace begins with the individuals, and through their relations with their local and international community as global citizens, and with the engagement of local and international community groups and institutions.
The Kingdom's efforts for regional and international peace and stability are also based on three key pillars; justice, development, and protection of human rights. These pillars have been translated by the Kingdom on the ground through building the local community in its various categories. The greatest proof of these efforts is the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which focuses on reinforcing national capabilities and engaging all groups in the development process that is consistent with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the reforms that have followed at the national level related to empowering women, revitalizing the role of youth in the Kingdom's development process, working at the regional level in order to achieve the sustainable development goals and building regional and international partnerships that contribute to achieving benefit for all.
Etidal & KAICIID
The Kingdom established the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal), which won international acclaim, and the Kingdom's initiative to establish the United Nations Center for Combating Terrorism.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom seeks to build bridges of dialogue and communication between followers of religions and cultures through numerous programs at the national level, represented by the King Abdulaziz Center for National Dialogue. At the international level, the Kingdom established the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID). Among the Kingdom's efforts to promote the culture of peace that it has translated on the ground is resolving regional and international disputes by peaceful means through negotiations, mediation or international arbitration.
Advocating international peace
The Kingdom has always called for the necessity of serious work to achieve international security and peace and the call for a political solution and dialogue to resolve all conflicts, in line with international norms and conventions, which urge the dedication of work for peace and its achievement, for the welfare of peoples, achieving security and stability, and pushing forward the wheel of sustainable development, urging peoples of the world and their countries to establish the values of tolerance and cooperation and to reject all forms of hatred and discrimination between peoples and cultures that lead to more conflicts. The Kingdom asks the UN system and stakeholders to participate in providing practical programs and initiatives that contribute to achieving the future we aspire to.
The Kingdom, based on its Arab and Islamic role and position, at various levels, whether politically or economically, is in a prime position to promote peace, unify discourse at the Arab or Islamic level, reduce its intensity, reject hatred, build bridges of communication between Arab and Islamic peoples and other peoples of the world, and contain the crises that arise within.
The Kingdom has made great efforts in this context, to resolve differences and disputes, which crystallized in agreements, summits, conferences and specific projects through which it seeks to bring the parties together to unify peoples, end wars and promote the values of tolerance and coexistence at the regional and international levels.
The Jeddah Peace Agreement, which, in 2018, ended the longest conflict in the African continent between Ethiopia and Eritrea, under the auspices of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and in the presence of his Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. Saudi Arabia also contributed to ending a major rift that lasted for more than ten years between Djibouti and Eritrea 2018, in addition to the Riyadh Agreement at the end of last year, which laid a basis for peace between the parties in Yemen. In July 2018, the Kingdom reinforced its interest in security and stability in Afghanistan, by hosting reconciliation sessions between the parties, while an international conference was held on peace and stability in Afghanistan to present the views of the various parties in order to achieve Afghan reconciliation and stop terrorism and extremism.
In addition, the Kingdom held conferences that brought together scholars and clerics from different religions and sects, to unify their word, and to establish the values of coexistence between peoples of different religions, doctrines, cultures and languages, through several bodies, the most prominent of which is the Muslim world League (MWL) and the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID).
Promoting coexistence values
Those efforts had a tangible impact in the formation of a number of documents, including the "Makkah Document" on the sidelines of the International Conference on the Values of Moderation in 2019, which provides for combating terrorism, injustice and oppression, rejecting the violation of human rights and dignity, and establishing the values of coexistence between religions, cultures, ethnicities and different sects in the Islamic world, and approved by 1200 Islamic personalities of different Islamic sects from 139 countries.
These agreements and documents have a great role in bringing together the various parties, ending wars, re-development, establishing the values of coexistence and achieving peace, and their sustainability depends on other factors, the most important of which are: the continuation of consensus between the various parties, and international efforts in this regard, and preventing any attempts to thwart them.
Among the Kingdom's efforts, which it has translated on the ground is fighting terrorism and violence, spreading tolerance and dialogue between different religions and cultures. Nationally, the Kingdom has implemented many security and awareness programs to combat terrorism, extremism to counter terrorist ideology and immunize the future generation from these ideologies.
The Kingdom's efforts were not limited to sponsoring agreements and treaties only, but also included many symbolic moves expressing the importance of promoting the values of coexistence and building bridges with various religions and cultures, such as coordinating meetings between Muslim sheikhs, priests and rabbis, or between sheikhs of various Islamic sects, priests, rabbis and officials from the Kingdom, a matter which confirms that the Kingdom seeks to emphasize the importance of building bridges between everyone and countering hate speech.
Thanks to its leadership position, the Kingdom has achieved many changes in the Arab, Islamic and regional political scene, through agreements that bring peace to the region, alliances to strengthen cooperation between countries, and partnerships that rise to a strategic level under the auspices of the Kingdom, in addition to the various agreements at the international level, through which the Kingdom seeks the development of many countries and support for their governments and peoples, as well as working to remove the names of some countries from the lists of countries sponsoring terrorism, lifting previous international sanctions, and encouraging Arab and Islamic countries and the international community to stand by these countries.
