Sustainability of Non-Profit Sector
The non-profit sector in the Kingdom received a great deal of interest from the government which realized the social and economic importance of the sector and the pivotal role it can play in the development of society and the empowerment of citizen through quality initiatives in the sector.
These initiatives mainly aim to enhance the capabilities of citizens, develop their personal skills and motivate them to give. Hence, it can be emphasized that this sector now represents a major pillar to achieve the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and targets of the National Transition Program 2020.
Perhaps the largest official support received by the non-profit sector has been the approval of the Council of Ministers for the establishment of the National Center for the Development of the Non-Profit Sector, which enjoys legal personality, financial and administrative independence and is directly linked to the Prime Minister.
The sector aims to activate the role of non-profit sector organizations, expand it in the fields of development and work to integrate the governmental efforts in giving licenses to these organizations.
The government is more keen than ever to support all those who have a desire and an orientation in the field of development work and associations, which are part of the non-profit sector.
The government also seeks to double the number of specialized associations in the coming years, and this goes in line with the aspirations of Vision 2030.
The official interest in the non-profit sector and its initiatives came few days ago during the talk of Minister of Labor and Social Development Eng. Ahmed Al-Rajhi during a meeting with members of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Makkah, as he announced the launch of forty-five development initiatives in various fields, aiming to enhance the field of social initiatives, develop the non-profit sectors concerned with the empowerment of male and female citizens, through various empowerment programs, and develop and improve their role, as well as enhancing the capabilities of those in charge of them, a matter that reflects the size of hopes and aspirations towards this sector.
The non-profit work today is the third pillar of sustainable development.
The Kingdom's Vision 2030 focuses on elevating this sector as one of the main pillars of the development process and as an important and effective partner in the Kingdom's comprehensive extraordinary development renaissance witnessed by the Kingdom.
Vision 2030 aims to raise the contribution of the third sector in GDP from less than 1% to 5%. This confirms that is a very important sector that opens its arms to those who care about it. Tomorrow we shall see the fruits of this sector represented in creating an ideal society with specialized associations and creative initiatives that have social and economic goals, and its own vision in the development of the Saudi society.
