91 retailers booked for staging false promotional offers
The Ministry of Commerce and Investment (MCI) has booked 91 violations among the retailers who were misleading the customers by false promotion offers.
During the month of Ramadan,a team from the MCI carried out nearly 6,000 inspections in retail outlets to verify the offers given by the shopkeepers were in order.
“These inspections are carried out to preserve the consumers’ rights,” an official from the MCI said, recalling that a total of 91 retailers who were booked for violations have been summoned for further legal procedures against them.
The violations detected by MCI inspectors included the condition of requiring payment to enter the competitions,making sales and promotions without obtaining a license, not displaying the price tag to show the price before and after the promotion.
This inspection campaign came within the seasonal work plan of the Ministry during the Holy Month of Ramadan to check and control the markets and outlets in different regions of the Kingdom to ensure the availability of goods and foodstuffs usually required during Ramadan.
The inspector were to verify the validity of promotional items and to monitor any cases of commercial fraud and manipulation of prices, and to take the necessary actions towards any effects on the supply, demand, competitions and sales.
The ministry has confirmed the continuation of the inspection campaign to monitor the promotions and sales offered by markets and shopping centers and to ensure the absence of any deception or cheating towards the consumers, and to take all legal procedures against the offenders.
The MCI has called on all consumers to lodge their complaints and observations through MCI Consumer Call Center (1900) or through the application of a Commercial Violation Report, or via the Ministry’s website.
