Souk Okaz to attract 1 million visitors this year
Taif Mayor Muhammad Al-Humail, said that Souk Okaz is expected to attract more than a million visitors this year.
Currently, final touches are being made by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) in preparation for the 12th edition of Souk Okaz to be held on the market site at the Taif Governorate from June 27 to July 13.
Last year , 824,000 visitors were recorded at the 11the edition of the Souk Okaz .
Describing Souk Okaz as a major source of tourism and economic development in his governorate, Al-Humail, who is also a member of the Supreme Supervisory Committee of Souk Okaz, Chairman of the Services Committee, said that since Souk Okaz is culturally and economically linked to Taif, it makes it a strategic goal that leads to local and global tourism.
Al-Humail also affirmed that Souk Okaz is a fertile environment that attracts investors by offering current and future investment opportunities.
He pointed out that the tourism sector and the national heritage are receiving the attention and care of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman. “The precious care that all the previous editions of Souk Okaz received is an embodiment of support and attention to one of the most important cultural and national events in the Kingdom and the Arab world.”
He commended the great efforts made by Makkah Governor Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Prince Sultan bin Salman, President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage and Chairman of the Supreme Supervisory Committee of Souk Okaz toward the success of Souk Okaz .
"There is an economic, social and developmental impact of development and service projects at Souk Okaz that has attracted more visitors in particular. This is reflected in attracting investments, providing jobs and operating tourist facilities. The services provided by the Taif Municipality play an important role in raising frequentation of Souk Okaz, especially as these services and facilities aim to achieve the comfort, safety and well-being of the visitor,” Al Humail said.
He explained that the Municipality has implemented many initiatives including the assignment of a specialized team to participate in the preparation of the market to withstand the high density of visitors, and study its needs, such as maintenance of facilities and maintenance of toilets and enhance services at the boulevard, and the provision of work hygiene and environmental sanitation.
