World Environment Day celebrations attract families,children
Hundreds of families with their children attended the three-day World Environment Day celebrations concluded at the Al-Bujayri area located in the Historical Diri'yah.
The event organized by the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh, has made extensive preparations to observe the World Environment Day (WED) under the slogan "Beat Plastic Pollution".
This year's celebration were carried out with the participation of the Riyadh Municipality, the Ministry of Health, the Presidency for Meteorology and Environmental Protection, the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, the Saudi Industrial Property Authority (Modon) and Saudi Aramco.
The highlights of the three-day event included a a wide variety of environmental awareness-raising activities, in addition to entertainment activities for families and children. Likewise, the participating agencies also organized activities to highlight their environmental efforts and achievements.
Children actively participated in the painting and coloring contests held at the park.
The organizers also distributed seedlings of domestic and external plants to visitors. They were also given brochures to tell them of the best practices of plant and tree cultivation.
A series performances were also staged at the theater for the entertainment of the visitors and their children .
The Committee for Environment Protection in Riyadh celebrates this global event annually as as part of its strategy to promote environmental awareness among all segments of society.
Saudi Arabia has made huge strides in environmental protection with initiatives to preserve the natural environment and wildlife that will boost ecotourism, reduce fishing and overgrazing, and protect and encourage vegetation.
A Platform for Action World Environment Day is the UN's most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.
The People's Day Above all, World Environment Day is the "people's day" for doing something to take care of the Earth. That "something" can be focused locally, nationally or globally; it can be a solo action or involve a crowd. Everyone is free to choose.
