The RIFA 2018 Person of Excellence Award goes to M.N.Karassery
The Person of Excellence Award for 2018, instituted by the Riyadh Indian Friendship Association (RIFA), a premier Indian cultural organization in the capital, will be presented to M.N. Karassery, outstanding literary critic and social activist from the southern Indian state of Kerala, in Riyadh on Friday.
The award carries a cash prize of Indian Rupees 50,000, and a citation plaque. Karassery will be given a public reception at the function. Karassery’s visit coincides with the RIFA Reading Competition price distribution ceremony.
Karassery will also deliver the keynote address at a literary workshop which will be held in Riyadh on the following day, which will be beneficial to writers and literary enthusiasts.
Karassery is an eminent personality in the literary and social circles of Kerala. Several of his articles and study notes have been published on topics such as literary criticism, literary translation, contemporary political and social issues, comparative studies, mythology, folk tales, and Muslim fables in Malabar. He obtained his doctorate from Calicut University on the basis of research papers based on mapplia songs. He served as a co-editor of Mathrubhumi Newspaper and also as a professor of linguistics at various colleges in Kerala. He has also served as a visiting professor in Persian language at Aligarh University. Karassary’s cultural interactions in the social domain of Malayalee community are absolutely remarkable and worthy of praise

The Riyadh Indian Friendship Association (RIFA), known as Rifa, is the cultural organization of the Malayalees in Riyadh for 20 years without any political, religious or regional thoughts, is an active presence in the social and cultural field since its inception. The reading competition, film festivals, environmental awareness, seminars and discussions are the signs of social-cultural interaction and reflections of Rifa.
