Lankan maid gets SR 64,000 back wages for 8 years

Sri Lankan housemaid ,who was working in the Kingdom for eight years had received a salary arrears of Rs 2.6 million,( SR 64,000)  from her sponsor due to the timely intervention of the Sri Lankan embassy in Riyadh.

Labor Counselor at the Sri Lankan mission in Riyadh Indika Thilakaratne told Riyadh Daily that  the sponsor of the maid Krishnasamy Lalitha Ranjani ,had dropped her at the embassy without paying her wages for eight years.

Following negotiations with the sponsor, the employer paid the arrears in full to the maid who had worked for his family for more than eight years.

The cheque was formally handed over  to Ranjani, by Manusha Nanaykkara ,deputy minister for foreign employment at a simple ceremony held in Colombo in the presence of officials of the Sri Lankan Bureau of Foreign  Employment,SLBFE, at its headquarters in Colombo on Friday.

SLBFE Additinal General Manager Kisholi Perera was also present at the event .

Ranjani told Riyadh Daily that the embassy officials in Riyadh helped her a lot to redeem her salary arrears from the employer.
