Saudi Aid worth $33 Billion for 78 Countries and Yemen in the Top of the List
Since its inception, the Kingdom's benevolence has not been limited to the Saudis only, but also to most of countries around the world. It has been providing humanitarian, development and charitable assistance in forms of grants and soft loans to all countries without distinction of color, religion or race. The Kingdom has always been one of the top ten providers of aid in the world.
In order to highlight the Kingdom's efforts internationally and preserve its rights to giving in the same way as the major donor countries do, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques – God bless and protect him - issued a royal order guiding the King Salman Humanitarian Aid And Relief Centre for establishing the Saudi aid data platform that includes the various humanitarian aid provided by the Kingdom, in coordination with the relevant authorities.
The Center has worked on designing and preparing the platform to register projects and humanitarian, development and charitable contributions, based on the international standards for registration and documentation accredited by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development's (OECD) Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and the United Nations Financial Tracking Service (UNFTS) and the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI).
The Kingdom's in cash and in kind assistance are provided in the form of humanitarian and charitable grants and soft loans to reinforce development. The aid data also includes payments and subsequent financial commitments. The Saudi donors were trained to classify the aid into three stages: the first ten years (2007-2017), the current phase, the second phase (1996-2006) and the third phase which includes the rest of the aid since the inception of the Kingdom.
The Kingdom has quite a history in the service of humanity globally, in various sectors and fields. Thus, it is called the Kingdom of Humanity and its name is always associated with issues of good, peace, giving and humanity. According to the official Saudi aid platform in its current phase (2007-2017), the Kingdom's humanitarian contributions have totaled up to USD 32,831,124,077 billion, equivalent to SR 123,116,715,287 billion.
Besides, the number of the Kingdom's humanitarian, development and charitable projects has reached 1084, with a total of USD 31,901,412,818 billion, equivalent to SR 119,630,298,069 billion for 78 countries.
Meanwhile, the financial contributions to the international organizations and bodies have included 489 contributions, with total USD 929,711,258 million, equivalent to SR 3,486,417,218 million to 37 beneficiaries. The development assistance have amounted to USD 493,889 billion, the humanitarian assistance have amounted to USD 353,440 billion and the charitable assistance have amounted to USD 82,381 billion.
The top five countries which have benefited from the assistance provided by the Kingdom were the Republic of Yemen with 290 projects at a total of USD 14 billion, followed by the Republic of Syria with 153 projects totaling USD 3 billion. The Arab Republic of Egypt ranked third with 20 projects totaling USD 2 billion. Niger ranked fourth with 7 projects totaling USD 1 billion and 230 million. Mauritania ranked fifth with 14 projects at a total amount of USD 1 billion and 219 million.
Moreover, the top five international organizations which have benefited from the Kingdom's contributions were the United Nations (UN) with 45 contributions at a total amount of about USD 303.37 million, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) General Secretariat with 23 contributions totaling USD 225,849 million, the Arab League (AL) with 28 contributions totaling USD 140,810, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with 24 contributions at a total of USD 80,200 million and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) with 21 contributions totaling USD 48,395 million.
The official general statistics of the Saudi humanitarian, development and charitable projects for serving continents and regions globally have amounted to more than USD 21.165 billion in Asia, Africa with USD 9,810 billion, Europe with USD 379 million, North America with USD 376 million and Europe and Central Asia with USD 170 million.
The number of partners has totaled up to 192, sectors 20 and the Saudi donors have totaled up to 10 as the value of the development assistance has amounted to USD 21 billion, the humanitarian assistance have amounted to USD 12 billion and the charitable assistance have amounted to USD 39 billion.
The Kingdom has carried out the largest ten projects, based on the type of sector, including humanitarian and emergency relief assistance by 69% for 716 projects, transportation by 73 projects, religious and social charitable works with 62 projects, education with 60 projects, health with 42 projects, water and public health with 29 projects, energy supply with 20 projects, agriculture with 18 projects, energy with 11 projects in addition to many other projects.
