Death toll in north-west China mine collapse rises to 21
Twenty-one people were killed in north-west China after the roof of a coal mine collapsed Saturday, dpa cited the state media.
The death toll went up from 19 victims after rescuers found the
bodies of two trapped miners on Sunday morning, Xinhua news agency
reported.
The state agency said the accident occurred at the Lijiagou coal
mine of the Baiji Mining Co in the city of Shenmu, Shanxi province,
around 4:30 pm (0830 GMT). At that time, 87 people were working
underground. Sixty-six people were lifted to safety after the collapse,
Xinhua said, adding that an investigation into the accident's cause was
underway.
