Saudi Foreign Minister: Palestinian Cause Is Central for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reiterated that the Palestinian cause is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's first cause and that the Kingdom will not hesitate to support the Palestinians in restoring their legitimate rights.
He pointed to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's rejection of the US administration's decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem, stressing that this step represents a significant bias against the historical and permanent rights of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem.
This came in his opening speech to the extraordinary session of the Council of Arab League at the level of Arab Foreign Ministers.
He added that we are meeting today due to the recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, targeting Palestinian civilians by the occupation forces and the US embassy's moving to Jerusalem, presenting sincere condolences to the families of the martyrs, who were killed by the heinous crimes of Israel, wishing the wounded a speedy recovery.
Al-Jubeir added that the Palestinian issue is the Kingdom's first cause as it is the first cause of Arabs, and that the Kingdom will not hesitate to support the Palestinians to restore their legitimate rights, pointing out that this was confirmed by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Al-Quds Summit in Dhahran, where he said, "The Palestinian issue is our first issue and will remain so until the Palestinian people obtain all their legitimate rights, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent State with East Jerusalem as its capital."
He pointed out that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strongly condemns the targeting of Palestinian civilians by the Israeli occupation forces and stresses the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to stop the violence and protect the Palestinian people and reaffirm the Kingdom's steadfastness towards the Palestinian cause and its support for Palestinians in restoring their legitimate rights in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative.
The Minister Al-Jubeir also stressed that today's meeting is of utmost importance because it comes after the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem, and that this action is contrary to the international resolutions, the resolutions of the Security Council and the resolutions of the General Assembly of the United Nations, the most recent of which was the resolution of December 2017 which stipulated that "Any decisions or actions aimed at changing the character, status or demographic composition of Al-Quds Al-Sharif have no legal effect and are null and void.
He further said, "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia refuses to move its embassy to Jerusalem and reaffirms that this step represents a significant bias against the historical and permanent rights of the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, which are being guaranteed by the relevant international resolutions, and recognized by the international community and represent a significant decline in the efforts to push the peace process, indicating that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has already warned of the serious consequences of this unjustified step because of the provocation of the feelings of Muslims around the world.
At the conclusion of his speech, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister praised the wide international stances rejecting the US decision and stressing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
