Major disaster averted as truck’s cruise control fails
A truck driver called the road patrols while driving on the Taif-Riyadh expressway and said he could not stop the vehicle from accelerating as his cruise control was stuck at 120km.
A major disaster was averted when the forces cleared the way ahead of the speeding truck and gave instructions on the phone on how to control the vehicle.
After several attempts over a distance of more than 70 km, the driver was able to regain control by pulling out the fuses from under the steering wheel, as instructed by the security forces.
A Red Crescent ambulance was called in to attend to the driver, who appeared to be in a state of shock.
